    Memory on G5 2.3 throttled down ?
I have a G5 single proc (dual core) 2.3 tower.

It takes ddr2 pc4200 ram. I had some faster ddr2 sticks from a PC that I wasn't using. I have always been able to put faster ram in if its the same type and have it throttle down to the correct speed.

But these throttle down to: PC2-3200-288 when I check the system ???

Anyone know why this is? And should I use them.... it seems to run ok.
Might this be causing all my ram to run at this speed ?

    Systems shows ....
2.5 gig at PC2-4200-444 (the proper ram at correct speed)
3.0 gig at PC@-3200-288 (the faster ram)

What do you think, am I better off with the 5.5 gigs as shown above?
Or should I go back to the 2.5 gig of correct ram ??

    Thanks

    Specs:
    iMac i5 2.7GHz, 16GB memory, OS 10.10.5
Stick to genuine Apple compatible memory , the PC2-4200-444. Apple memory is low density and most PC ram is high density, which is cheaper. Eventually you will have problems with PC memory.

Thanks, after I said it was working fine ... I got a kernel panic last night. First time in over a year, so I pulled it right back out.

I am going to get another 4 gig from OWC. That will put me at 6.5 gigs.
Plus I am getting the 300 gig "Raptor" drive for my system drive.

That's the boy OWC are simply the best, cheapest and even quickest service to here in Australia! Sorry to put the jinx on you, but that kernel panic is p[recisely what happens with inappropriate modules. When the Raptor is up and running PM me with what you think of it hey?
