My Dad's iMac DV of 9 years finally died and he's looking to replace it with a lower-end mini. He checks email, uses the Internet, and some minor photoshop stuff in addition to word processing. Would the mini be a good choice for him?

Quick answer...maybe...maybe not. Performance-wise yes it would be a good replacement or even an improvement. And he would be able to "recycle" the old iMac's keyboard & mouse...but he would need to purchase a display.

You didn't mention if you are only considering new computers...or are open to getting a used computer.

So it's possible that the cost of a Mac-Mini + a monitor...may get close to the cost of a much newer used iMac.

If you can get a display cheap, recycle the old iMac's keyboard & mouse...then a Mac-mini would be a good choice.

Something to consider,
