Ive got a 7GB file on my iMac I want to move it to my windows partition. How can I do this? Ive got an external drive formated to FAT32 but doesn't accept files this big. If I format NTFS or HFS I cant move files back and forth easily? I want the external to be compatible with both.

No.

But, if you want an external that will be compatible with a Mac and a Win machine and take 7GB files, you'll have to format it as NTFS or HFS.

If you format as NTFS, you'll need software on the Mac to enable writing to it.
If you format as HFS, you'll need software on your Win box to enable reading and writing.

There are multiple options available to do either of the above.

The one above is one of the free options for the Mac.
The free option for Windows is HFSExplorer.
