When I try to prepare a blank CD-R as Standard formatting I get an error message that states Disc initalization failed because start-up or other discs are full.
There is no other explanation. Any clues?

I am a little confused here. You don't normally prepare a CD-R, but you may prepare a CD-RW.
What ever the case, if you have less than 700MB available disk space maybe causing the problem. I would try to to keep about a gig of space available. You may need it for swap, scratch and other system type functions.Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, It's about learning to dance in the rain!
